Avian Fauna

Cordillerean flycatcher

The Monarch Area has a rich and varied bird population.  The dippers, owls, and ravens are here year round, whereas the songbirds appear in the spring to breed and leave in the fall.  Some birds, such as the ducks and geese, just stop here for a short time before moving on.  The table below lists the common birds seen by residents and visitors.  To see photos of these birds, use the Image Search Engine at Google and search for the common name or the genus and species.

"Breed" means that the bird breeds in this area.  "Winter" indicates that the bird spends the winter here.  "Trans" means transient.
